Dr. Mutumba is a Medical Officer and a non-degree fellow on the Enrich project. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCHB) degree from Gulu, University. He currently serves as a Study Medical Officer at Global Health Uganda at Nalufenya Children’s unit, Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.
His research study is titled, “Knowledge and Attitudes about Sickle Cell Disease and its management among HealthCare Providers treating Adolescents and Young adults at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital“. This study seeks assess the knowledge and attitudes about SCD and its management among healthcare providers treating adolescents and young adults at JRRH. This will be a cross-sectional mixed methods study conducted among 119 HCP at JRRH.
It will employ both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Findings from this study will inform us of the level of knowledge and the attitudes of these HCP towards the adolescent and young adult patients living with SCD. It will also inform us of the knowledge gaps which will be used to develop tools to address the gaps found. This will help improve the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare among this population.
