Dr. Senja David is an Enrich Master’s awardee from Busitema university currently pursuing a Master of Public Health. He is a medical officer at Pallisa General Hospital with over 15 years of experience in clinical and community health care. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Kampala International University and a qualification in Clinical Medicine and Community Health from Mbale School of Clinical Officers.

Dr. Senja has served with Pallisa District Local Government since 2010, working as a clinical officer and health centre in-charge before pursuing further medical training. Following his medical training and internship at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, he returned to Pallisa District in 2022 and currently provides patient care services at Pallisa General Hospital. His professional interests include maternal and child health and research, with a particular interest in contributing to improved health outcomes through evidence-based practice.

Study summary

His study assessed coping strategies and factors associated with quality of life among caregivers of patients with sickle cell disease attending the Sickle Cell Clinic at Pallisa General Hospital, Eastern Uganda. Using a cross-sectional mixed-methods design, the study determined caregivers’ quality of life, identified the coping strategies they used, and examined socio-demographic and other factors associated with quality of life. The researchers collected quantitative data using a WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire and qualitative data through interviews and focus group discussions. The study sought to provide evidence to guide the development of appropriate caregiver support interventions and improve the overall well-being of caregivers and families affected by sickle cell disease.
