Study summary
This study assessed the prevalence of abnormal lung function and associated factors among people aged 12 years and above living with sickle cell disease who attend the Sickle Cell Clinic at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in Eastern Uganda. The study used a hospital-based cross-sectional design, with lung function assessed using spirometry. It aimed to determine the prevalence and patterns of lung function abnormalities and identify clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with these abnormalities. The findings provide important local evidence that may support early identification, monitoring, and management of respiratory complications among people living with sickle cell disease in Eastern Uganda.
